Our Team

Our Planet Travel Team

Our Planet Travel & Living’s team is very small… just me (Melanie Grevis-James), joined by casual staff as needed to assist me with writing and design. I also work closely with writers and bloggers who generously contribute their stories to support promoting responsible travel and living. I am based in Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland, in the sunshine state of Australia.

MELANIE GREVIS-JAMES | Editor & Publisher

Melanie is the Founder and Publisher of Our Planet Travel & Living blog and magazine. Melanie launched Our Planet Travel in 2011 to raise more awareness about ‘greener’ and more responsible travel choices. Melanie is passionate about the protecting the environment and about travel. Along with developing strategic tourism marketing plans, brand development, and design services, she has extensive skills in travel writing and publishing, and was previously the Publisher and Editor of makeTracks magazine (custom in-vehicle travel magazine for THL Australia, commenced in 2004). Melanie has an extensive career in Australian and international tourism marketing, spanning over 29 years in key marketing roles within all levels of the tourism industry; including strategic marketing roles with Regional, State, and Federal tourism organisations, private tourism operators, and as a marketing consultant for tourism associations, local councils and operators. Melanie currently owns Our Planet Travel and Our Planet Marketing (formerly Banksia Marketing), based in Brisbane.

Melanie has a Bach. Business (Tourism/Hospitality Management) degree; speaks German fluently; and lives in Brisbane. She has enjoyed the outdoors, nature and camping from a very young age – including family holidays, a 3-month camping trip through the centre of Australia, and many 4WD and camping holidays in national parks across Australia. An appreciation of nature and the importance of protecting our environment has grown from these childhood experiences. Melanie has travelled extensively both in Australia and overseas, and has lived in the USA and Germany.

Melanie is a current member of the Australian Society of Travel Writers (ASTW), and Ecotourism Australia – Australia’s leading industry body for ecotourism, sustainable and Indigenous tourism.

Mel’s favourite travel destination is the Australian outback – enjoying 4WD adventures in the outback regions, desert, and National Parks.

LINA CRONIN | Freelance Journalist & Researcher

Lina is a passionate traveller who has been writing about her holiday experiences since she made hand-drawn books for her younger siblings about their family camping trips around Australia in the early 1990’s. After studying international tourism management and journalism at university, Lina landed a job working for the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in Madrid, Spain. She has worked as a freelance journalist and dreams of opening her own locally-staffed backpacker hostel somewhere in Southeast Asia. Lina has assisted me with researching and writing stories for Our Planet Travel + Lifestyle since 2013. Lina’s day job is working for Ecotourism Australia. Her favourite eco destination is Lake Bunyoni in Uganda.

Kym Bierenbroodspot

‘Kym B’ is a whiz with design skills and provides her graphic design expertise to assist with the magazine and campaign. With over 28 years experience, earning her credentials at the Commercial Art Training Centre, Kym’s eye for design ensures we always look great! Kym’s talents extend to print, online, websites, company branding and many logo development projects. When Kym is not on the computer weaving her graphic design magic, she is found bush-walking, exploring or camping with her family. I am very lucky to have her as part of my tiny team. Kym’s favourite camping location is on the beach front at Hervey Bay,  at Pialba Beach.

I also have a very talented team of writers, designers, and photographers who support me on a regular basis. With such a small team, and a very limited budget, we all have other part or full-time jobs to sustain us financially.

We all have two things in common though: we love our jobs, and we love the environment.

Please feel free to contact me – I would love to hear from you; and I’m always very happy to chat about eco travel and living!
